Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future .“
1. Introduction
......... everyone deserves a second chance ..........
God has gracefully given us, a vision after 42 years in education, that the time is right to put in place an Independent 2nd Time Around Matric Academy where we assist students to pass their matric 2nd time around or to upgrade their symbols in order to further their studies, with special emphasis on Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Commerce and English Home and First Additional Language. The purpose of the Academy starts by stressing it’s fundamental role in the education of the child to reach his/her full God-given potential in growing as a total person of value, for the benefit of self, family and community, based on Godly principles.
The Academy is strongly founded on Christian ethics and values, and was established in January 2011 in Zwide, Port Elizabeth, in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan area. Here we facilitate the teaching and training of young adults from all areas of our country, who have had the misfortune of obtaining poor results or failing grade-12, often due to factors beyond their control.
The focus of the Academy is to provide quality and affordable education to disadvantaged students from homes and areas where little or no emphasis has been placed on the value of education, moral values and or leadership development and assist/sponsor students that cannot afford to pay any fees.
The purpose of Academy starts by stressing its fundamental role in the education of the child to reach his/her full God-given potential in terms of body, mind and soul, growing as a total person of value, for the benefit of self, family and community.
All students / young adults have the potential to achieve great things through perseverance and hard work (diligence), but if they want to achieve excellence they have to discover what they are best suited to do and then put that gift to work (work ethics) for the benefit of themselves and others.
Making a positive impact on the future of our students with Godly principles, is certainly the best legacy. We are pursuing this with great compassion and vigor.
Using the Departemental prescribed N.C.S. and Nated (pre-N.C.S. syllabus) curricula, we will provide an education plus Leadership Development and community upliftment to students that is based on these seven pillars which Matric Academy of Excellence operates, namely:
HONESTY, INTEGRITY, DILIGENCE, MUTUAL RESPECT, LOVE AND CARING, DISCIPLINE AND HUMILITY
This will ensure young leaders with high moral and ethical values, who can become part of the future of our country.
It is part of our vision to provide world-class tuition based on the involvement of excellent Christian Educators. Educators to be contracted must endorse the Vision and Mission of Matric Academy of Excellence and will teach according to, and themselves adhere to, the seven basic principles mentioned in our core statement.
We recognize in our Student Development periods that the implementation of the GREAT COMMISSION of Matthew 28;19-20 is not only about leading people to Christ, but much more importantly, about the teaching of kingdom principles to establish students in their faith. As it is written, “and wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is His treasure”( Isaiah 33;6)

7.ETHOS:
All endeavours of the core principles of the Matric Academy of Excellence will be centered on the following key values and formal pledging ( by all staff, mentors and students involved at the Academy) as a psychological milestone:
THE SEVEN PILLARS
It has been said if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything. This is particularly true in society. The following seven pillars are an excellent start to form responsible young adults, as well as a good name and to adopt, as guiding principles, when the adults become future citizens of value preparing for their future.
1 Honesty
As e As each building has a cornerstone, the cornerstone for every individual’s life is honesty. Honesty makes a person trustworthy and in teaching it sets up an unseen field of trust in which a student feels nurtured and encouraged for academic response and growth.
2 Integrity
Integ Integrity supplements Honesty. For a person of Integrity his “Yes” is “Yes” and his “NO” is “NO”, leaving no areas for corruption and this sets the tone in which students gain the liberty to expose their weaknesses, knowing that these will be dealt with integrity and professionalism.
3 Love and caring
Gluing the above two principles is Loving and Caring. It sets the atmosphere of mutual trust in which the young adult can blossom, grow and develop to his/her full God–given potential. A caring teacher recognizes individuality within the group and caters for all types professionally. Love yourself the way God loves you and your neighbour like yourself. Be kind and compassionate and show you care genuinely. Express gratitude. Forgive others. Help people in need.
4 Discipline
Discipline can be categorized as:
Discipline in interaction with God/others/society
· Self–discipline for dreams/destiny/vision in good and bad times with perseverance and diligence, no excuses entertained but focused on your dreams.
· The Word of God teaches us in 2 Timothy 3 : 14 & 15
“But as for you, continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned (them), and how from your childhood you have had a knowledge of and been
acquainted with the sacred Writings, which are able to instruct you and give you the understanding for salvation which comes through faith in Christ Jesus (through the leaning of the entire human personality on God in Christ Jesus in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom and goodness)”
· Discipline yourself to respect other people and their views to obey the laws and rules of the country irrespective of, if you agree or not.
5 Diligence
The first command mankind received was to work. It is even stated in the Word that if a person does not work, he should not eat. One of the most important contributing factors towards students’ failure is the lack of diligence towards their own futures. Mediocrity is a way to divert from excellence and success it is not an alternative, but must be avoided at all cost.
6 Mutual respect
Respect sets the tone for a fertile learning environment. With mutual respect both teacher and student feel safe and nurtured, Educators giving their best and students co-operate in trust and respect. Respect builds a faith/trust relationship between teacher and student. Have respect for yourself first. Treat others with respect. Follow the Golden Rule: be tolerant to differences. Use good manners, not bad language. Be considerate of the feelings of others. Deal peacefully with anger, insult and disagreements.
7 Humility
All achievements are only by grace, and by humbling oneself, one can achieve. It is only by God’s favour and grace upon one’s life that one can succeed. Humility acknowledges that all the above six principles can only fall in place in acknowledgement of the ONE that is the GIVER of all good gifts, acknowledging: “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord” Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jer 29:11)

- A measure of maturity is accepting and being accountable for your present position and situation. Every individual should have the personal slogan: “If it is to be, it is up to me”.
- Every individual has the ability and is accountable to himself to grow beyond any inhibiting environment.
